Was is the key word here. Was just chillin’ on a Sunday. It was still a good day, although I had to work – but I ended the day pretty darn satisfied that I’d learned something new.

Day 08
Just kickin’ it today w/ the kids. Played w/ my daughter for a while w/ her Littlest Pet Shop collection – she loves this stuff. I think they did a really great job on the character design on these little guys. Watched All Dogs go to Heaven w/ my son, AJ. Last weekendof summer for them! : (

Day 07
What a crazy hectic day. You know when you have those days where everything seems to break? Um…Yeah, that was a perfect description of my day. Days like this are painful, but they do keep you humble.

Day 06
My oh my how time flies when you’re having fun. This was a great week and the kids are getting ready to go back to school on Monday. We met Andew’s teacher, and said a quick “hello” to Calie’s new teacher. Can’t wait until Monday to take them to school!

Day 05
Today, you guessed it – we ate all the cookies. Some other things happend within the course of the day, but it went by so fast, I couldn’t tell you what, exactly. I saved some crumbs for you, though.

Day 04
Make these amazing chocolate cookies w/ a buttercream filling with the kids today. It was cute watching them help with the ingredients, especially when they get to crack the eggs – they love that. Overall, a pretty darn productive day. It was overcast, too, which I love.

Day 03
Pretty typical Monday today. Nothing really to write home about. Pretty much a whirlwind of work, phonecalls, tasks and t0-do’s. The highlight of my day was probably eating lunch with the kids. My daugher is a bit intimidated about going back to school because she’s not a big fan of math. She’s like me when I was a kid. Really creative, but not all that academically movitaved. I explained to her that she just needs to practice, practice, practice!

Design Revival in the Form of Illustration
An Unexpected Source of Design Inspiration
Illustration is hot. It’s new, fresh, unique, funky – really – whatever you need it to be. With all of the easy access to stock photography, and the overuse of it, illustration is a great way to differentiate, infuse excitement and add vibrancy to visual communications.
I recently found a really great source of illustration while visiting Sephora (makeup store) with my wife, and was totally inspired by what I found. I literally spent an hour in there just looking at packaging (while my wife shopped!).
The first thing I noticed when walking into Sephora were some cool pinup girl illustrations on some packaging for BUXOM. The BUXOM logotype was embossed and clear foil stamped on a very weighty uncoated stock. The pinup girl illustrations had a really kind of rough feel to them, like the ink bled on the packaging – almost like they were drawn right on the package.
After drooling over the packaging for a minute, I noticed another brand, called Urban Decay. This packaging was just freaking awesome – particularly one makeup case they did with a magenta-ish foil stamp of icons, leaves, and flowery-swirly-thingys flowing out of the barrel of a revolver on a black matte case. Over the top of the foil was a purple velvet pattern. Just gorgeous. They also have a line of really cool smaller makeup cases, each with a themed name and custom illustration/design for each. Very cool indeed.

Day 02
Okay, so we didn’t actually end up going roller skating today. We got to the place and they were closing in fifteen minutes. I had a feeling I should have waited until afterwards to do this sketch. Oh well – my intentions were illustrated, at least, right? Haha. We went bowling instead. My wife kicked my butt.
